Weekly Theme: Protection

There are several ways to protect yourself
in the photo above:
Latex gloves, sunglasses, ear plugs,
a dust mask, a condom, and sunscreen.
Please remember to protect yourself and
your loved ones!

Red Bluff Rodeo
Hee Haw ya’all!

My friend invited me to attend the rodeo. I had not been to one since I was much younger. I wasn’t really sure what to expect! It was going to be a very HOT day, so I put on sunscreen and a hat and prepared for whatever would happen. Luckily, our seats were in the shade. So we had a great time! I enjoyed taking many photos.

Just a different world that I am used to. But fascinating and we just went with the flow. It was “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” day (breast cancer awareness)...so you will see many “cowboys” wearing pink.

We had one lite beer while there, but you should have seen the massive amount of curly fries they sold as one serving! Left those alone.

We saw bucking bronco riding, bull riding, horse races, steer roping, and barrel racing. I have to say, they are totally organized and have the program down pat.

The following are photos that I took that day.

Men who have serviced 1 to 4 years in Iraq.

Steer Roping

Little cowboy

Bucking Broncos

Clydesdale Horses of Budwiser.

A horse race!

Riding the bulls.

Barrel Racing

Pun of the day:
"A young cowboy asked his father, "Do you think I can make a good living riding wild horses in a rodeo?"
His dad replied, "You should get a couple of bucks out of it."

Photo Hunt ~ Weekly Theme: PURPLE

Weekly Theme: PURPLE

When I am Old I Will Wear Purple
by Jenny Joseph

Warning!

When I am Old
I will wear Purple!

When I am an old woman,
I shall wear purple - -
With a red hat which doesn't go,
and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandles,
And say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
and gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bells
and run with my stick along public railings,
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit!
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at ago,
or only bread and pickles for a week,
and hoard pens and pencils
and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
and pay our rent
and not swear in the street,
and set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner
and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised
when suddenly I am old,
And start to wear purple!

Easter In San Diego

Friday, I left to visit my sister and her husband in San Diego over the Easter weekend. They picked me up at the airport and stopped at the water front for dinner and wine at the “C Level” restaurant. The view was wonderful. Later, we walked along the water front taking photos there, and also at the Santa Fe railroad station. Then we moved on to Seaport Village. In “The Upstart Crow” shop/coffee house Don bought a book and I bought trivia jazz cards.

Saturday evening found us in the Gas Lamp area of San Diego. Here the crowds walked the streets stopping in here and there. We had chosen Dizzy’s Jazz Club, which is currently located in San Diego’s Wine and Culinary Center, for dinner and music. The Gilbert Castellanos, the New Latin Jazz Quartet were performing and they were absolutely incredible! What a thrill for a “country gal”.

Sunday, of course, was Easter. Before our home made Easter dinner, my sister, Pat, and I took a lovely walk near Lake Murray. It was a beautiful day and there were many families barbecuing and having picnics. Again a chance for photos.

Monday, however, was the best weather and photo day of all. While Don went to work, we headed for Balboa Park. A truly wonderful place, with interesting buildings and grounds. Although the museums were closed that day, we were able to view the botanical garden. It is an exquisite place with fasinating plants of various kinds.

Perhaps I should warn my sister...that I may make this an annual trip!

thought of the day: "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder".

Photo Hunt Weekly Theme: Triangle

Weekly Theme: Triangle

Luckily, I happen to be spending Easter
weekend in San Diego.  So here is a bowsprit
with rigging that forms several triangles.

This is a triangular sail as the sun is
beginning to lower in the sky.

And just for fun!
How many triangles can you find in this photo?
