Breast Cancer Tea

Last weekend, a friend asked me to take her place at her sorority table for the Breast Cancer Tea. I really wasn’t really sure what it was all about...it turned out to be a wonderful group of different organizations getting together to receive donations for Breast Cancer.

There were about 30 groups involved and they all had fancy decorated tables. The centerpiece of each table was put up in a raffle. I bid on ten. But I didn’t win any...oh well, a good cause.

Besides the lovely tables, there were many lovely donations from boutiques to buy. Then, of course there was all the exquisite food.

Ninth Grade Friends’ 42nd Reunion

This year we met at Linda’s in Sebastopol, CA. I came from northern CA and Lynette came all the way from Jamaica. Of course, first thing we did was to break open the wine and have a toast to our long friendship. Then came the presents, as we all turn 60 this year.



Of course, there was plenty of delicious food, silly photos, sight seeing, shopping, game playing and many wonderful walks. On Saturday, another high school friend came from the Sacramento area, to share the day with us. Ann was a very fun addition and we all had a great time checking out the quaint town of Sebastopol.











The next day, the three of us headed to the coast...only about one hour drive, but oh, so windy! On our way, we passed the “Children’s Bell Tower” made to honor, 7 year old Nicholas Green. He died in Italy and had his organs donated to save the lives of seven people. The next stop was Bodega Bay for a lunch of fish and chips and a Long Board Beer. The sea gulls were also looking for lunch.






Later, we found Timber Cove Lodge a perfect place to stay. What a view and what a room -- hot tub & white terry robes fireplace, couch and dining table in our room. We did some hiking before dinner to enjoy the ocean. After dinner and a lovely sunset, came a hot tub with wine and then to sleep. The next day after breakfast, we drove farther up the coast. Again we took a hike. I searched for heart shaped rocks. We also spotted a sand castle and sand alligator.













Back in Sebastopol, we did more relaxing, cooking, eating, drinking of wine, chatting and game playing. We also took walks, on a previous trip we had seen the famous metal sculptures, this time we visited the mosaic murals at the local high school.



Great time and now we are contemplating our next reunion. Perhaps overseas!

Art and Politics
(Beauty and the Beast)

The “Artist Open Studio Tour” consisting of 36 different artists in a variety of genres was held through out Redding last weekend. Each day I was able to visit some and enjoy the talent of local artists. I saw lovely etched glass, beautiful jewelry, amazing oil and watercolor paintings, great photographs and some incredible bird and fish carvings. Out of the 36, I was able to view 18 artists. It was very inspiring.




In addition, each day I also had a political event to attend. The first was an Obama rally on a street corner with several other enthusiastic supporters.


On Sunday, we listened to U.S. Congress candidate Jeff Morris at an open house. He certainly, was a fine speaker and will make a wonderful Congressman.


Thought of the day: "Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion."

Weekly Theme: Lazy

This was a tough theme for me. I did not want to do the obvious lazy pet or lazy guy with a newspaper on his face. Finally, I spotted this small statue and she appeared to be relaxed and lazy.

Gather Ye Charge Cords

When preparing (last week) for another fun trip. Almost one a month...I love it. Isn’t this what retirement is all about? Anyway, now when I pack, I need to remember to bring my charging cords!! Let’s see, there is the one for my cell phone, the one for my IPOD, the one for my camera, the one for my blue tooth, the one for my camera to the computer, and the one for the lap top computer. Then there is the car adaptor cords--one for the cell phone, and one for the IPOD. OMG...how times have changed. I used to just try to remember to pack enough underwear, one for each new day. Once again...I’m going “nuckin futs”!


Thought for the day: If you take a laptop computer for a run, you could jog your memory.

Sad indeed, when our beautiful Turtle Bay Arboretum caught on fire and burned.
Luckily, there was quite a large portion which did not burn, but it is sad to see when we take our walks there.
